Everyone knew the
#1-ranked Ravenswood Red Devils would be a tough team. The Beavers
played their hearts out on Friday night and never gave up in their
64-55 loss to Ravenswood to end the season with an impressive 21-5
record.
One of the key
differences between this game and the Beavers quarterfinal
match with Oak Hill was 3-point shooting The Beavers put up
six 3-point shots against Oak Hill (5 were scored by Craig
Ponder), but they only managed to score one 3-point shot against
Ravenswood (which was made by Shawn Brooks).
The Beavers were
down 10-7 after the first quarter, but were able to come up with a
15-point second quarter performance to tie the score at 25 at the
half.
Ravenswood got ahead
of Bluefield again in the third quarter and never looked back.
Bluefield hung on until the end but couldnt get ahead in the
end, and lost 64-55.
Ansel Ponder lead
the Beavers effort with 25 points. Craig Ponder followed with
11 points, and Turquan Casey contributed 10 points.
Congratulations
to the Bluefield Beavers boys basketball team on a winning
season!!!

The third time
wasnt the charm for Oak Hill on Wednesday night.
The Bluefield
Beavers dominated the Oak Hill Red Devils for the third time
this year by a final score of 67-45, and move on to the West
Virginia Class AA semifinal game on Friday!
The game got off
to a slow start, with only three Bluefield and four Oak Hill
baskets in the first quarter, giving Oak Hill a 7-8 lead.
The Beavers
defense held back Oak Hill in the second quarter, allowing only
four more points to be scored by the Red Devils. Bluefield added
on 11 points for an 18-12 lead at the half.
The game broke loose in the
third quarter. Craig Ponder lead the way for Bluefields win,
sinking four 3-point buckets and contributing 15 total points in
the third quarter. Bluefield produced 24 points in the third
quarter and 25 points in the fourth to finish with a 67-45 win.
Bluefield
will tip off against #1 ranked Ravenswood Friday at 1 PM at the
Charleston Civic Center. Ravenswood defeated #8 Keyser 78-57
earlier in the day on Wednesday. If you go to the game, you
don't have to go to school on Friday as long as you bring a note
in on Monday, so be sure to go upstate and support the Beavers!

Ansel Ponder scored a season-high 28
points Friday night at Bluefield State to lead the Beavers past
the James Monroe Mavericks by a final score of 68-59.
Turquan Casey had a promising first
quarter, nailing three long shots, but was fouled out in the 2nd
quarter after picking up 2 technical fouls in a controversial
call. The Beavers finished off the Mavs for good when Ansel
Ponder raised the roof with an amazing slam dunk, just seconds
before the end of the game. The
Beavers play next Friday night at Mount
View. Next Saturday's home game against Logan is sure to be a
great game to watch.
